A Brampton man is walking from his home to Niagara Falls to raise money for the Daily Bread Food Bank’s holiday fundraiser to fight hunger.
Alvin Lourdes will start his walk this Saturday, early at 2 a.m. He plans to walk for 16 hours on his first day covering 80 km. On Sunday he will complete the remaining 60 km of the 140 km trek.
“This year has been difficult for many families and food insecurity is an urgent issue affecting many vulnerable communities across Canada,” he said. “I hope to encourage people to join me by giving to the Daily Bread Food Bank.”
Lourdes, who works for the Ontario government as Senior Manager Business Solutions, should be in the West Niagara area walking through Grimsby and Lincoln on Sunday morning.
He will be posting his location updates on his YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/AlvinLourdes
“It’s going to be cold! I have been training and I feel ready for this challenge. My wife and family will be checking in with me along the way,” he said.
A GoFundMe page for the fundraiser has been set up and Lourdes has already exceeded his fundraising goal of $2,000. As of Friday he had raised over $2,800, but wants to keep the momentum and raise as much as he can as he begins his journey.
