BRAMPTON, Ont. — The mayor of Brampton, Ont., says the death of a 13-year-old girl in his city from COVID-19, is “heart wrenching” and “horrifying.”
Patrick Brown tweeted his condolences on Sunday night, posting a Globe and Mail article on the girl’s death.
A spokesman with Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board confirms that one of its students recently died from the novel coronavirus.
The school board says it’s focusing on supporting staff and students who have been hit by the loss.
Bonnie Crombie, the mayor of neighbouring Mississauga, Ont., also tweeted her condolences saying “to lose someone so young to this virus is a truly heartbreaking.”
Brown says in his tweet that “We can never underestimate the seriousness” of COVID-19 and the variants currently spreading in many communities.
