Ontario reports 1,396 new COVID-19 cases, hospitalized cases up 21 since yesterday; Niagara reports 12

COVID-19 cases in Ontario plus Niagara Region Ontario reported 1,396 new COVID-19 cases today, a decrease from yesterday's record high of 1,575. The Niagara Region reported 12 new cases, a decrease from yesterday's report of 20 cases.

“Ontario is reporting 1,396 cases of #COVID19. Locally, there are 440 new cases in Toronto, 440 in Peel and 155 in York Region. There are 1,018 more resolved cases and over 40,500 tests completed,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.

Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher cases numbers include Halton Region with 55 new cases, Hamilton and Waterloo with 43 new cases, and Durham Region and Ottawa with 41 cases. Other public health units reported 40 cases or less.

There are 19 new deaths reported in Ontario today, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the province to 3,312. There were no new deaths reported today in the Niagara Region. In total, 78 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.

Niagara cases are continuing to decrease with today and yesterday’s reports, after the new highest COVID case count of 63 reported on Tuesday. Of those 63 cases, 45 came from a workplace outbreak in an agricultural operation in Lincoln. The previous high was on June 3 with 40 cases.

452 cases in Ontario hospitals

Ontario has now had 89,784 total cases, with 75,220 cases resolved. There are currently 452 cases in hospitals, with 106 in intensive care and 67 on ventilators.

Ontario continues to see a rise in COVID-19 cases in hospitals with an increase of 21 reported today. The number of people in intensive care in Ontario hospitals increased by eight, and the number of those on ventilators increased by five since yesterday.

The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region is now at 1,776 with 1,451 resolved. Of those cases, there are 247 active cases, down 21 from yesterday and 14 active outbreaks, same as yesterday.
